Five British military horses from the Household Cavalry caused chaos in London on Wednesday morning, as they bolted through the streets near Buckingham Palace during rush hour. The horses were reportedly spooked by construction workers during a morning exercise in Belgravia, causing them to throw their riders and charge through busy streets, injuring at least four people.
Footage shared on social media showed the horses running past Buckingham Palace and through other areas of the city, with one horse seen soaked in blood after injuring itself smashing into a car windshield. Three soldiers and a cyclist were among those injured in the chaos.
The horses were actually on a rehearsal for a Major General’s Inspection set for the next day in Hyde Park when the incident occurred. City of London Police were able to contain two of the horses and were waiting for the British Army to collect them for treatment.
The incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of working with animals, even those as well-trained as military horses. The Household Cavalry is known for their precision and skill, but this unexpected incident shows that even the most disciplined animals can be startled and cause chaos in a busy city like London.
The injured parties are receiving medical attention, and the British Army is likely reviewing their protocols to ensure a similar incident does not occur in the future. For now, Londoners are left with an unforgettable morning commute disrupted by runaway horses and a scene straight out of a historical drama.
