Maryland Teenager Arrested for Planning School Shooting
Maryland teenager, 18-year-old Alex Ye, was recently arrested for planning a school shooting at Thomas S. Wootton High School. Ye was charged with threats of mass violence after police discovered a 129-page document outlining his intentions and desire for fame.
Following an FBI and police investigation, a search warrant was issued, and the document was seized. In it, Ye contemplated targeting an elementary school in his plans for the shooting. The document also revealed internet searches and drawings related to mass threats of violence.
As a result of the investigation, security has been increased at schools in the area. Ye had attended Thomas S. Wootton High School before being sent to psychiatric hospitals. During his time there, an informant discovered a memoir written by Ye that contained alarming content despite having a disclaimer.
Ye allegedly put at least five people at Wootton High School at risk of death or injury in his writings. He expressed a desire to use an AR-15 to carry out the attack, specifically targeting an elementary school. Internet searches conducted by Ye included gun ranges and school shootings.
Ye had been hospitalized in December 2022 for previous threats to “shoot up school” and has not attended school since the fall of that year, continuing his education through remote learning. The authorities are taking the threat seriously and are working to ensure the safety of students and staff in the area.
