Four individuals have been apprehended in Manipur in connection with the abduction and murder of two Meitei students, according to sources. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) spearheaded the investigation and successfully made the arrests. The suspects have been identified as Paominlun Haokip, S Malsawn Haokip, Lhingneichong Baite, and Tinnuphing, with the wife of the main accused also being among those taken into custody. In a twist, two juveniles, who happen to be the daughters of the primary suspect, were held initially but later released.
The families of the deceased students firmly believe that armed militants played a role in their tragic deaths. To shed light on the matter, a CBI team led by Special Director Ajay Bhatnagar has been stationed in Imphal since September 27, diligently conducting their investigation. Recent turmoil in Imphal heightened after graphic images allegedly depicting the killings circulated on various social media platforms. Consequently, clashes between security forces and protesters erupted, resulting in casualties.
Given the gravity of the situation, the CBI has been entrusted with uncovering the circumstances surrounding the students’ disappearances and identifying those responsible. The arrested individuals are being transported from Imphal to Guwahati for further legal proceedings.
The incident has garnered significant attention within the region, prompting concerns from locals and authorities alike. The state government has expressed its commitment to ensuring justice is served, vowing to collaborate fully with the CBI during the investigation.
As the investigation unfolds, the focus remains on bringing justice to the grieving families and holding the culprits accountable. The CBI team, along with other law enforcement agencies, continues to gather evidence and piece together the events that led to the unfortunate deaths of the Meitei students. The nation eagerly awaits further developments in this tragic case.
