India has called on Iran to release 17 Indian crew members who were captured on board a container ship by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards. The Indian External Affairs Minister has raised the issue with his Iranian counterpart in an effort to secure the release of the seafarers.
The ship, which is linked to Israel, was also carrying four Filipino seamen who were captured during a helicopter operation near the Strait of Hormuz. The Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has confirmed that there were a total of 25 crew members on board the captured vessel.
The Philippine Department of Migrant Workers is also working to secure the release of their captured citizens and ensure their safe return home. The situation remains tense as both India and the Philippines are calling on Iran to release the detained seafarers.
The capture of the ship has raised concerns about the safety of ships in the region, especially those with ties to Israel. The Strait of Hormuz is a crucial waterway through which a significant amount of the world’s oil passes, making it a strategic location for maritime activity.
As the diplomatic efforts to secure the release of the captured crew members continue, all parties involved are hoping for a peaceful resolution to the situation. Stay tuned to KP Insider for updates on this developing story.
