Title: Ford Reports Steady Growth in U.S. Sales, Driven by Strong Demand for Pickups and SUVs
July proved to be a fruitful month for the Ford Motor Company, as it reported a 5.9% increase in U.S. sales compared to the same period last year. The surge in sales was primarily attributed to the robust demand for Ford’s pickup trucks and the eagerly awaited Bronco SUV. However, a slight decline in electric vehicle (EV) deliveries was recorded.
Ford’s F-Series pickup trucks witnessed an impressive 8.2% surge in sales, with 68,536 trucks sold in July. However, the electric F-150 Lightning experienced a setback, with sales dropping by over 28% to 1,552 units. This decline was due to a temporary factory shutdown for production upgrades. Despite the setback, the company registered a significant sixfold increase in Lightning orders following mid-July price cuts. Ford anticipates slower sales until mid-September as it rebuilds dealer inventories. However, the company has ambitious plans for the Lightning, aiming to produce over 70,000 units in 2023 once the factory is fully operational and capable of manufacturing 150,000 vehicles per year.
In addition to the Lightning, Ford’s electric Mustang Mach-E faced a temporary setback as well, with sales declining by nearly 21% in July due to a factory shutdown for upgrades. However, the E-Transit commercial van reported a substantial increase of over 50% in sales, reaching 791 units.
While EV sales faced a temporary slump, Ford’s traditional internal-combustion and hybrid models experienced strong sales and generated considerable profits. The Bronco SUV, Ranger, and Maverick pickups notably contributed to this success.
Overall, Ford achieved a commendable 9.4% increase in U.S. sales through July, encompassing all vehicle types, including EVs and Lincoln-brand models. This growth underscores the company’s ability to adapt and capitalize on shifting market demands.
As Ford continues to make upgrades to its factories and expands its EV portfolio, the company remains optimistic about its future sales potential. With the steady growth exhibited in July, Ford is poised to maintain its upward trajectory in the coming months, solidifying its position as a leading player in the U.S. automotive market.
