Southern New England is currently being hit with a messy winter storm, bringing a variety of precipitation types to the region. A winter storm warning has been issued for northern Worcester County and northwestern Middlesex County, while a winter weather advisory is in effect for parts of western Essex and Middlesex counties as well as southern Worcester County.
The storm timeline includes a mix of rain, sleet, and snow through Midnight, with colder air moving in after midnight causing sleet to change over to snow in northern areas. A dry slot is expected to develop across southeastern MA on Thursday, bringing some relief from the precipitation.
Snow accumulation is expected to vary across the region, with differences in elevation playing a role. Boston and areas inside the 128 belt are not expected to see any snow accumulation, while areas north and west of 128 could see anywhere from 3-6 inches in higher elevated areas.
In addition to the precipitation, high winds are also a concern, with gusts between 30-50mph and potential gusts of up to 60mph on the coastline. A coastal flood warning has been issued for Cape Ann to Hampton, NH, with minor to moderate flooding expected.
The storm is expected to start diminishing Thursday evening, but lingering clouds and rain/snow showers are expected through early Sunday. Residents are advised to stay safe and take precautions as the winter weather continues to impact the region. Stay tuned to KP INSIDER for the latest weather updates and advisories.
