The NFL Draft kicked off in Detroit with a bang, as six quarterbacks were selected in the first 12 picks, tying a record from the historic 1983 draft class. Rounds 2 and 3 took place on Friday night, while rounds 4-7 are set to unfold on Saturday.
Offensive players stole the spotlight in the first round, with 23 offensive players chosen compared to just nine defensive players. The Arizona Cardinals bolstered their offense by drafting wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. to support quarterback Kyler Murray, while the Philadelphia Eagles snagged cornerback Quinyon Mitchell without having to trade up.
The New York Giants opted not to select a quarterback in the first round, showing confidence in Daniel Jones. LSU made history by having two wide receivers drafted in the first round for the first time.
There were some surprises as well, with Kirk Cousins shocked by the Atlanta Falcons drafting quarterback Michael Penix Jr. shortly after he signed a new contract. The Las Vegas Raiders missed out on a quarterback in the first round, leaving them searching for one in later rounds.
Zach Wilson’s chance to reset his career in Denver was derailed when the Broncos picked quarterback Bo Nix in the first round. Defensive backs faced a long wait before being selected in the first round.
In a strategic move, the Buffalo Bills traded back in the first round, missing out on a wide receiver and potentially benefiting a rival like the Kansas City Chiefs. As the draft continues, teams will be looking to make the most of their selections and build for the future. Stay tuned to KP Insider for more NFL Draft updates.
