The Buffalo Bills have made a major trade with the Houston Texans, sending star wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Texans in exchange for draft picks. After spending the past four seasons with the Bills, Diggs will now be joining a new team.
In return for Diggs, the Bills will receive a 2025 second-round pick from the Texans, which originally belonged to the Minnesota Vikings. The Texans will also send a 2024 sixth-round pick and a 2025 fifth-round pick to Buffalo as part of the deal.
However, the Bills will face a hefty $31 million dead salary-cap charge next season due to trading Diggs before June 1. Despite this financial hit, the Bills clearly felt that it was time to move on from the talented wide receiver.
Diggs’ departure seemed inevitable after a dip in production following a coaching change last November. His brother, Trevon Diggs of the Dallas Cowboys, even publicly urged Stefon to leave Buffalo.
Meanwhile, the Texans have been busy in the offseason, adding key players like Danielle Hunter, Denico Autry, Jeff Okudah, and Joe Mixon. After a successful season last year, winning the AFC South under first-year head coach DeMeco Ryans, the Texans are looking to build on their success with the addition of Diggs.
The Bills, on the other hand, are experiencing a period of change with several key players moving on. With Diggs gone, the team’s wide receiver depth chart will now be led by Curtis Samuel, Khalil Shakir, and Mack Hollins, along with tight ends Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox.
Overall, this trade marks a significant shift for both teams as they look to improve their rosters for the upcoming season. Stay tuned for more updates on KP INSIDER as the NFL offseason continues to unfold.
