Google is set to introduce a new feature for its Google Workspace customers that will enable them to lock their Google Drive files. This feature will prevent anyone, regardless of their level of access, from making edits, comments, or suggestions on the locked file.
The rollout of this feature will be gradual, taking place over the next 15 days for Rapid Release domains. For Scheduled Release domains, the feature will become available starting on September 20th. This new addition to the Google Workspace suite will save users time and effort, as they will no longer have to rely on the Google Drive API or file approvals to lock their files.
Previously, locking a file required requesting approval for a draft that would be inaccessible to everyone in terms of edits. However, with this new feature, users can simply right-click on a file, go to File information, and select “Lock” to prevent any modifications. This streamlined process will enhance user productivity and collaboration.
Google continues to invest in its Workspace platform, which already offers various features such as Duet AI and native eSignature support. These updates demonstrate Google’s commitment to staying competitive in the productivity software market and keeping up with industry leader Microsoft. By incorporating AI capabilities and continuously improving its suite of tools, Google aims to provide users with a robust and efficient ecosystem for their professional needs.
The introduction of file locking within Google Drive is just one example of how Google is responding to customer demands and enhancing its offerings. Whether it’s for personal or professional use, Google Workspace users can expect more updates and improvements in the future as the company strives to meet the evolving needs of its customers.
