EA Announces Server Shutdowns for Three Games: Crysis 3, Dante’s Inferno, and Dead Space 2
In a surprising announcement, Electronic Arts (EA) has revealed that it will be shutting down the servers for three popular games: Crysis 3, Dante’s Inferno, and Dead Space 2. This news comes as a blow to fans who have been enjoying these titles online, as they will soon lose access to the multiplayer features.
The shutdowns will be staggered, with Crysis 3’s servers shutting down first on September 7. Fans of Dante’s Inferno and Dead Space 2 will have a bit more time to enjoy the online experience, as the servers for these games will close on December 8.
This announcement follows EA’s recent closure of the servers for other titles earlier this year, including Kingdoms of Amalur, Shadows of the Damned, Syndicate, and Warp. Last October, the gaming giant also shut down servers for several older titles, such as the beloved game Mirror’s Edge from 2008.
Interestingly, Crysis 3, which was remastered in 2021 along with Crysis and Crysis 2, is a single-player only game and does not have an online multiplayer component. However, fans were still hoping for the multiplayer servers to remain active, as the game’s intense gameplay mechanics lend themselves well to online matches.
There is a glimmer of hope for Crysis fans, as Crytek, the developer of the Crysis series, previously announced in 2022 that it was working on Crysis 4. However, since then, there has been little news about the next installment in the franchise, leaving fans eagerly waiting for any updates.
These server shutdowns are part of EA’s ongoing strategy to discontinue online support for older games, focusing instead on current and future titles. The news about the server shutdowns was first discovered on EA’s Online Services Shutdown support page by PureXbox. Taylor, a reporter at IGN, was the one who broke the news and can be followed on Twitter at @TayNixster for further updates.
As fans prepare to bid farewell to the online features of Crysis 3, Dante’s Inferno, and Dead Space 2, many are left wondering what’s in store for the future of these beloved franchises. Only time will tell if EA has any plans to revive these games or if they will remain relics in gaming history.
